Famous for its incredible natural red sandstone formations, the Valley of Fire State Park has a number of inspiring scenic hikes and driving paths ideal for viewing these features. Once used as a religious and social center for native peoples, certain areas around the park are filled with carved petroglyphs; two of the areas with the most visible etchings are the Atlatl Rock and Mouse's Tank rock features. Located just west of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, about 60 miles by car northeast of Las Vegas, the park allows overnight stays at its two campgrounds.
Open year round. Visitor center open daily 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Entry fee $6 per vehicle. Overnight camping rate $14.
